2009 sees the return of the popular Crystal Palace Triathlon, organised by Crystal Palace Triathletes (CPT). The race comprises a 750m swim in the 50m pool at the National Sports Centre, cycle nine laps of a closed circuit within the park (closed to traffic!) then run two laps around the park, finishing in the renowned athletics stadium.

Swim = 750m - 15 lengths in 50m pool
Bike = 20km - 9 laps of closed road circuit in park
Run = 5km - 2 laps in park

Competitors for the full Sprint event must be 17 or over on the day of the race.

The entry fee is £36. British Triathlon members will be refunded £3 at registration, on production of a valid race licence.

Entries are now open for the first CPT junior triathlon, to be held on the same day, for the following BTF age-groups:

The junior race will be run according to BTF rules, ages and the distances raced.

Junior British Triathlon members will be refunded £2 at registration, on production of a valid race licence.

As we are once again aiming for a carbon-neutral event in 2009, the additional questions we are asking on the online entry form are for the purposes of working out the race carbon footprint as accurately as we can after the event, they are not for marketing purposes and will not be disclosed to any third parties.

We will operate a waiting list should the race fill before the closing date.

We have been advised by the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre that the refurbishment of the 50m pool will be completed in April and the pool will be open in time for this year's race.

Carbon Neutral

Zero Carbon Events

Following the success of, what was believed to be, the first UK carbon-neutral race in 2008, Crystal Palace Triathletes have decided to continue this theme in a bid to cut emissions produced as a result of the Crystal Palace Triathlon. You can read more about our plans for a carbon-neutral race and how we are hoping to achieve this in the summary prepared by Zero Carbon Events on our behalf.

ProSport PhotosProSport Photos will again be taking photographs on race day. You will be able to view and order your images online after the event.

Junior event photography
Crystal Palace Triathletes does not want to prevent parents/carers or other spectators being able to take legitimate photographs or video footage of competitors. However, there is evidence that certain individuals will visit sporting events to take inappropriate photographs or video footage of children/young people. As a Club and a race organiser, it is essential that we should be vigilant about this possibility.

CPT will therefore, for the purposes of our event on 31 May 2009, have in place registration for those wishing to take photographs or video footage of children/young people. Please read the attached guidelines, complete the permit request form and bring to Registration with you on the day of the race, where an identification pass will be issued giving an individual the authority to take photographs or video footage of children/young people at the Crystal Palace Triathlon.

You can view photos taken by CPT members at last year's triathlon. These show setting up, action shots around the course and marshals celebrating at the end of a very long day! Back to top
