Chairman's Roundup

Congratulations to Matt Lawes and Kevin Freeman for completing Ironman Lanzarote on Saturday, in what sounded like extremely tough conditions. Rich Lewey went offroad at the TrailX Duathlon, and our Spanish division completed the Gran Fondo Almeria (check our Karen's report below). Graeme Blair raced the Ocean Lake sprint yesterday.

Gran Fondo Almeria

Bruce, Gary and Karen rode the inaugural Gran Fondo de Almeria on 26 May.

There were 1000 places but at registration we were told only 160 participants!

Gary and Karen cycled to the start, just 20 minutes from home, and were cheered by revellers leaving the nightclubs!

They watched the sun come up as we gathered in the starting pen. The start was delayed by a few minutes but after the countdown 140 cyclists raced to the first roundabout and disappeared. The remaining 20, us included, did their own thing at their own speed!!

karen pretty much cycled the whole 123k on her own while Bruce and Gary stuck together.

It was an amazing, but challenging route, following the coast road, then undulating inland. At 70k the major climbs started, with around 1500m climbed by the finish (our Garmins all had slightly different totals). Karen was very glad she didn't enter the 208k ride which had 3700m of climbing!

At the finish they were presented with a finisher's t-shirt and medal and attended a paella party on the beach in the evening.

If they run it again next year hopefully there will be more participants and perhaps a bigger CPT representation?! Bruce says he'll drive the support car!!!

Chairman's Roundup

A nine-strong CPT team competed in round 5 of the BTF London League, at the Total Motion Aquathlon. Victor and Louise raced the Nottingham Sprint Triathlon (ETU qualifier), and Graeme Blair did the Harbour Wallbanger Beach Race. Mike Dowds and Euan Davies scored excellent times at the Swashbuckler Middle Distance, and congratulations to Peter Wood for completing his first half at the Marshman.

New members Isaac Griffiths and Emma Dodds kicked off their seasons in style at Ironman 70.3 Barcelona, and Matt Briddon had a great race at the Grafman. So that's CPTers at 4 different middles on the same day! Tom Cumberlege kept it local at the Chislehurst half marathon.
