Weekend results - 20-21 May

On Saturday 20 May, Matt, Kev and Tom took on the tough Ironman Lanzarote course. Congratulations to Matt and Tom who have been added to the Ironman Roll of honour. Unfortunately Kev was ill during the bike and was very disappointed to DNF. Sophie was the 2nd F25-29 at the Nuffield Health Sprint Triathlon at Dorney.

On Sunday 21 May, Chih raced 70.3 Barcelona (see his race report below), Charlotte was 3rd F30-34 at the Southport Sprint Triathlon and Michael was 3rd M50-54 at the Nuffield Health SuperSprint Triathlon. Dave ran the Richmond Marathon, where all went well up to 19 miles, then nothing left in the tank on a very hot day and hilly course.

There are a couple of other races on the race matrix but their results haven't been published yet.

ChihRace report - 70.3 Barcelona - by Chih Lin
(warning contains graphic descriptions!)

So I had a very good race at Barcelona until the run.

On the swim, the conditions were perfect and I can truly understand why you (Karen) have moved to Spain and I will in 30 years!

I could hear Audrey shouting rotation from the hips, Jon's open water drills and Brian's advice about my arm entry... I was close to sub 40mins but was 2 minutes quicker than last year.

I was quicker on the bike too, but the run all went wrong and it was my slowest half time ever.

After the first aid station, I realized whatever I ate or drank would cause stomach ache straight away, so I decided to stop eating and just had small amounts of water for hydration. I had very good splits 4:50 to 5:00 until km 17, but I hit the wall because of no nutrition... then I had as much food as I can on km 18... then I destroyed a portaloo... really! I am sorry, but it was not pretty... than I just had to walk/jog for the last 4 km.

I always have problems when running but never so bad to the point I have had to choose nutrition or stomach ache and explosion.... !!

Could have been a PB, but just not the day. Thank you for the Club kit and all the coaching for the swim and bike improvements.

CPT rocks!
