Haydn at IMUK - 17 July 2016

Martin raced at Challenge Roth and knocked a huge chunk off his previous long distance time. Martin and Haydn's times have been added to the Ironman Roll of Honour.

Noel took on the Tough Crow Sprint Triathlon and Dave raced the Jenson Button Triathlon and was racked just three bikes away from Jenson!

Dave racked next to Jenson Button

No results from the Dunwich Dynamo because it's not a race! We had pretty much perfect conditions, it was warm with a tailwind. We didn't quite make it to the beach to see the sunrise but we did see the sun and managed a quick, cold, dip in the sea. Well done to Joseph who got there first! Although he wasn't so happy when he had to get back on his bike to cycle to Ipswich.

Ride 100 recce rides

This morning, a few keen members set their alarm clocks for early o’clock to recce the hilly part of the Ride 100 that’s taking place on Sunday 31 July (avoid driving that day!).  The team whizzed around 120km+ stopping off for a photo shoot at the infamous Cockerel roundabout, a coffee stop at Box Hill (met other CPT riders) and a couple of punctures.

The usual 9am starters also did the Box Hill route, with the medium group deciding to add Leith Hill for good measure. Unfortunately we never found it, although we did manage to do a few extra climbs so got a good workout!

parkrun and mobmatch results - 9 July

Going into the final of three mobmatches, we trailed Windrush by 13. A big ask given that Windrush were taking it very seriously. As it happened, so were we. A tremendous turn-out of 24 (Yes 24!) of CPT's finest gave us the honour of taking the series by two. And what quality the two clubs brought to Crystal Palace park on a sunny Saturday morning. Windrush females took 2nd and 4th place, with our Suze taking 3rd. Greg came in 1st overall with Rob in 3rd. What a result. Big thanks to everyone. Can't wait till next year.

Weymouth Middle Distance Triathlon race report

HansRace report by Hans Geberbauer

Last weekend we headed to Weymouth to race in a middle distance triathlon as final prep for Challenge Roth. After a very sunny and very blustery Saturday, race day came along much more benignly, with barely a breeze and a leaden sky.

The water was lovely but although the field was only just over a hundred swimmers quickly spreading out over a single lap course, one competitor kept zigzagging across me until I manhandled him out of the way.

T1 found me oddly discombobulated, and I was slow to move on (I mean, five minutes - what was I doing?). The bike was, well, boring. A single, not particularly scenic lap on roads carefully chosen to be dullest on the Isle of Purbeck (people who have done the Tour of Wessex know there are some great routes there). Without any climbing or cornering, my mind began to drift after 90 minutes and I had to give myself a stern talking to to maintain a decent effort.

Hans in WeymouthThe heart rate remained stubbornly high but when I hit the run, the pace seemed ok for the first 10km. I was beginning to seriously fade on the second when a woman attacked 5 km from the finish. I responded and we paced each other all the way to the finish line at a much higher speed than I would have mustered on my own. I was rewarded with a peck on the cheek for pacing to a podium place as 2nd F.

The data from the race was confusing. A high heart rate on the bike (which was 2km short) should have caused a blow out on the run, but the run went fine, although again on a much higher heart rate than I'd usually muster in a race like this. No pacing guidance for Challenge Roth to be gleaned from this race, I think. Nonetheless, a fun day out and very satisfying closing run.
