2016 News - May

CPT in action

Thames Turbo results - 30 May

Four members raced the Thames Turbo Sprint Triathlon on Monday 30 May.

Apologies, Tim has pointed out the original times I posted hadn't been adjusted to allow for the ‘non-competing’ T2 times. The adjusted times have now been added, which also means Gareth got a PB!

Results - 25-29 May

Firstly, an apology to Pete for incorrectly listing his Jurassic Quarter Ultra result. He wants to assure everyone he didn't stop along the way for a few pints at lunchtime. I've corrected his time!

Well done to the four CPT members who raced, in the first of the series, Tooting Lido Aquathon, all of whom had a podium finish on Wednesday 25 May.

On Friday 27 May, Cathy, Greg, Louise and Victor represented GBR and Ireland in the Sprint distance at the 2016 ETU Triathlon European Championships in Lisbon. On Saturday 28 May, Alex raced the ETU Sprint Elite Juniors. On Sunday 29 May, Alex and the rest of the GBR Elite Junior Mixed Relay team took Gold, ahead of Spain and Germany, with Alex taking the glory leg and crossing the finish line in style! Weekend results - 21-22 May

Alex and Matt at the Slateman Triathlon 2016What a busy weekend!

On Saturday 21 May, Matt took on the Slateman Sprint Triathlon.

While Peter ran the Jurassic Quarter Ultra, a 46 mile coastal trail run.

On Sunday 22 May, Alex did the gruelling Slateman Full Triathlon. Alex says it's one of the harder races she's done - icy cold swim, hilly ride in rain and hail and then a casual run up and down a mountain, but the scenery was definitely stunning!

Peter raced the Marshman Middle Distance Triathlon, Tom did a great time at the Copenhagen Marathon, Michael raced at Dorney Lake in the Eton Super Sprint Triathlon.

Well done to Rob, Dan, Selwyn and Kevin on their impressive times at Velothon Wales. I can't include Mark's time, because there's an awful lot of Mark Thomas' in the results!

Hannah at the Eton Sprint 2016Congratulations to Hannah on her 2nd place (female), and 1st place in her age group, at the Eton Sprint Triathlon which was ITU qualifier race.

Congratulations also go to Suse on her 1st place FV place at the Grafman which was also the British Middle Distance Championships. Mike, Kati and Glyn also raced, as did Matt (although not racing as CPT, he is a member!).

Suse, 1st FV, Grafman 2016

And last but not least, a huge well done to Alex Yee, who ran a PB of 8:01:63 in the 3000m at the Loughborough International Athletics event as a junior member of team GB.

Beckenham Relays - 18 May

This year's Beckenham Relays were a sell-out with 118 teams. CPT fielded six teams after a few last minute drop outs.

Thanks to Dave for rallying everyone and bringing some post-race chocolate treats to celebrate his birthday.

Weekend results - 14-15 May

On Saturday 14 May, Victor and Louise went to Dorney Lake for the All Nations Triathlon, where Louise was 2nd in her age group.

Congratulations to Alex on his 2nd place at the Sosban Sprint Junior Triathlon in Lanelli. Alex had the fastest run split on the day.

Sunday 15 May was the highlight of the CPT triathlon year, with our very own Crystal Palace Triathlon.

A very big thank you to all the members, old and new, family and friends who came out to support and marshal our race, the biggest and best one yet!

How not to ride wearing an aero helmet!Only a few honoured individuals are allowed to race at our event as it's all hands to the deck for marshalling duties. You have to be selected to represent CPT for the London League team or be a new member who joined the Club after the previous year's race had filled.

There was some great racing and CPT was once again well represented on the podium, taking all three male super vet places, 2nd and 3rd overall female places and 1st female vet, despite not making the most of wearing an aero helmet!!

See the race page for more info and links to images.

London League - Dragonslayer

The Dragonslayer Duathlon, round 2 of the London League, took place last Sunday and a welcome reappearance of such a great event. It was a well-attended and fiercely contested competition amongst clubs.

Men's Team - 2nd: Mike Dowds, Rob Parry, Jon Horsman. Strong racing from Serps (five in the top 10) saw them narrowly outscoring us despite us taking 1st and 2nd on the podium! Takes us up to 3rd in the overall rankings after two races.

Ladies Team – 1st: Hannah Ewens, Suse Fairfax, Lisa Buchanan. CPT dominated this taking all three podium positions and securing maximum points! Gets us off the mark and stright up to Joint 1st with Clapham Chasers.

Mixed Team – 1st: All of the above. Also gets us off the mark and straight up to Joint 1st with Clapham Chasers.

Mob Match – Joint 1st with Serpentine: All the above plus Mark Brown, Selwyn Smith, Isaac  Brown, Greg Lewis, Kevin Freeman, Peter Wood, John Buchanan, Glyn Tully, Gareth Robson, Michael Doble and Kati Pusey. Great racing from all of you takes us up to 3rd overall.

Club Aquabike champs - 12 June

With the excitement of the Club Championship Duathlon fresh in your memory, it's time to remind you of our next Club champs race which will be the Mid Sussex Aquabike on Sunday 12 June. Mike is personally guaranteeing the weather will be as good, if not better, than we experienced at the Duathlon!

It's a very accessible race distance (400m swim / 25k bike) and is ideal if you are nursing a running injury, fancy a change or just don’t like running!

Entries are still open so please get yours in and don't forget to add your name to the race matrix. This also counts as a Club League race, so is ideal if you want to make up some ground on those speedy runners in your age group!

Club league - Update 1

We are three races into the Club league already – Kingfisher Aquathlon, Tonbridge Sprint Tri and Dragonslayer Duathlon. There are already some top results but as no-one has yet done three qualifying races we'll hold off posting any positions yet!

Remember the Club league (find out more) is open to any races with five or more club members on the start line and you need three or more qualifying race performances to count. So get entering and don’t forget to update the race matrix.

The next Club league race appears to be Graffman Middle Distance Champs in a fortnight.

Dragonslayer results - 8 May

Congratulations team CPT for an amazing performance at the Dragonslayer Duathlon, which was Round 2 of the British Triathlon London League as well as our Club Championship Duathlon race.

CPT took home 10 out of the 20 medals on offer, with overall female 1st, 2nd and 3rd, overall male 1st and 2nd, FV win, MSV 1st, 2nd and 3rd and Junior win!

Unfortunately I think we missed out on the mob match by one person (Jane punctured on the way there and Kati missed a lap on the bike, but we won't hold them personally responsible!).

parkrun mob match - round 1 - Greenwich

Saturday saw the first of the three parkrun mob matches between Crystal Palace Triathletes, Windrush and Greenwich Tritons at Greenwich parkrun.

There were six hardy CPT members who made the trek to the far corner of South East London to a sun bathed Avery Hill Park. Thanks to Natasha (who was first lady), Helen, James, Mike, Brian and Dave for flying the flag (see times below).

Greenwich Tritons took the early honours with a team of eight, which is to be expected as it was their home run. Windrush and CPT each fielded a teams of six, so very close and still all to play for.

The next dates are 4 June at Brockwell Park and then 9 July on home ground at Crystal Palace.

Please attend if you can in some form of club kit, and make sure you are a registered parkrunner, affiliated to Crystal Palace Triathletes.
