Lands End to John O’Groats

Ride report from Fintan Culwin
Although the shortest road distance from Lands End to John O’Groats is 874 miles, I took 1047 miles. Likewise the Deloitte Ride Across Britain, which departed on the same day as me, takes 9 days whilst I took 16 days. The major difference is that other routes use the major roads, whilst my group with the CTC used mainly back roads and B roads. This gave us more opportunity and time to see many astounding sights. I think I saw more of Britain in the two and half weeks than I had seen in the previous two and half decades. This is one of the world’s iconic rides and one I would recommend to anyone, the only problem is to decide what the next challenge might be.

Cake sales at HHV

A big thank you to everyone who has contributed to and purchased cakes at the Tuesday night HHV sessions this season.

The sales have raised a fantastic £342 for the junior section. Our thanks go to Sandy Eagling who organised this on behalf of CPT juniors.

Results - 26-27 September + a late one from the 20th

Josie with Alistair and Jonny BrownleeOne late result, on Sunday 20 September Dave returned to the Brighton Marina Triathlon.

The Hever Castle triathlons took place this weekend. On Saturday 26 September, Peter and Helen raced the Super Sprint and Matthew, Steve and Steve the Sprint Plus. On Sunday, Tom and Gabriele raced the Standard Distance and Tom The Gauntlet.

Josie raced, in a modified version of Club kit, at the Brownlee Tri. She managed to get herself photographed with the brothers for the second year in a row.

Chris at the Loch Ness MarathonOn Sunday 27 September, Rob and Richard took part in the Mud, Sweat & Gears mountain bike race at Hadleigh Farm. They both completed four laps, Rob in 1:23:23 and Richard in 1:27:41. Rob explains, it's just like any circuit race (cyclocross, crit, formula one). It's a five lap race, but as soon as the winner crosses the line to start their last lap, that is everyone's last lap. So If you get lapped before you start your lap last (as I did), then you finish.

Emanuele and Rachel raced at the Gatorade Eton Dorney Sprint Triathlon.

Chris was very pleased to get a PB at the Loch Ness Marathon and Ruki ran the Marbella Half Marathon.

Results - 19-20 September

On Saturday 19 September conditions were rather different for this year's Triatlon Carboneras to those experienced and reported in 2014!

The sea temperature was down by about 7 degrees and a high percentage of competitors wore wetsuits, but at 19 degrees, it still felt arm to me! It was a windy afternoon and the sea was very choppy (the photo doesn't do justice to the size and force of the waves). I did a short test swim and got dragged under and washed up on the sand, only to find my trisuit full of very gritty sand that I couldn't get out before the start!

I didn't think I was ever going to make it to the first buoy, with arms flailing mid-air most of the time! The return to shore was even worse as the current dragged everyone off course and due to the size of the waves you couldn't see the flags you were meant to be aiming for. I got covered in seaweed trying to climb out through the waves. Bruce saw one lady knocked back into the sea four times before she successfully escaped!

Coming out of a very choppy sea at Carboneras, Spain

After the long run up the beach and along the road to transition, I was much happier once on my bike and made up loads of places, with the 5th fastest female bike split. Unfortunately my run let me down at the end and I was overtaken by nearly everyone I'd passed on the bike! Although I was pleased to complete the 5k after not running for six weeks and took 2nd place FSV.

Rehydrating Spanish style!

Selwyn reports from the TRI Team Challenge at Dorney Lake, where we had three CPT teams.
CPT1 - Suse, Jon H and Greg (1st mixed team)
Wild Boys – Gary, Selwyn and Dan (Dan and Selwyn tactically swapped the run leg)
Chase The Kangaroo – Kirsten, Kati and Mat

It was a fun end of season event and a good time to catch up with members in a non-stressful race environment.  Definitely one for the diary next year but hopefully with more teams.

On Sunday 20 September Graeme was 3rd MV and Noel was 3rd MSV at the Thorpe Park Sprint while Mike and Tasha ran the Reigate Half Marathon.
