The Ironman Roll of Honour has been updated.

On Sunday 24 May, CPT had three GBR representatives at the ETU European Half Distance Triathlon Championships in Rimini, Italy. See Selwyn's race report below.

Richard was 3rd overall and 1st MSV at the Hercules Festival of Sport Luton Sprint Cross Triathlon.

Dave raced at the Velopark ELT Dragonslayer Duathlon.

Alex raced in the Junior British Athletics 1 Mile Road Championships, coming third in the U17s, in a distance he doesn't usually race! Steve Cram had the honour of meeting Alex at the awards ceremony outside Buckingham Palace.

Rimini race reportRace report by Selwyn Smith

We did it and lived to tell the tale - just!

Not sure if you saw any of the Giro d’Italia last week, but it rained solidly in Italy leading up to our race and the wind made some serious surf happen - was scary chat about race becominga duathlon.....nooooo!

Selwyn on the bike at RiminiNot only was there a heavy grey cloud over Rimini but one was looming over poor Rob’s head - he had gastroenteritis (or as Selwyn called it,, Gastro Pub-itis !) and it was touch and go if he was going to race.

Come race day, it was still wet but waves had died down as had Rob's toilet visits!

Kirsten’s words of encouragement just before I jumped in the sea for the start of my race were – ‘come back alive, don’t go crazy on the bike descents’.

Swim was rough with big swirl - some guys complained swim was far too long but think their Garmins accurately included the peaks and troughs.

Bike was a lottery on the sharp slippery descents with a few unlucky elites/age groupers ending up with pretty bad road rash or dnf. (Note from Rob: Don’t forget to mention I was caught in a group that got sent 3km off course on the bike at one point! That bit is very important indeed!!). (Reminder from Selwyn: Know your race route!).

Run was supposed to be the easy bit – long, straight flat but I found this the hardest as did Kirsten and Rob.  My legs were fine-ish but had bad stomach pain (no-one likes a whinger!) so had to 'do the IM shuffle' to get around.  I was twistedly amused though as Rob was also in a bad way and it reminded me of the awkward IM Crawl (Google it!) - Rob shuffled past me, I took him in the portaloos, then he crawled past me again.....

Selwyn finishing Challenge RiminiThe GBR supporters were so motivating though, I would have so walked but there was no hiding from my name being called out...lifted me to the finish line. And I think I'll let the picture describe how happy and relieved I was to finish.

Very tough day in the office for sure but a top experience.

As I always like to put my wife first, here’s a different way of representing the results – Kirsten came 14th, Selwyn 20th and Rob 21st……in our age groups.

Beckenham Relay results - 13 MayA big thank you to Dave Crockwell for organising the CPT teams, especially at such short notice, for the Beckenham Relays on 13 May.

We had eight teams and an impressive win from our fast boys, Alex, Dan and Mike. Alex was, of course, also awarded an individual trophy for the fastest 2.6 mile lap on the night and a new course record (12:23). Congratulations!

A big well done also goes to Dave and Mike who ran twice to make up the numbers. Dave also provided some post-race cookies to celebrate his birthday.

London League update - Race 4

Report from our League Coordinator, Rob Parry

Round 4 of the London League was of course our home race, and we totally smashed it! I don’t just mean those competing, but all of you who helped make the day the standout success that it was.

As one of the lucky few who gets to race, I can’t tell you how motivating it is to have the enthusiastic marshals around the course calling out your name.

You definitely helped push your CPT race team to give their best performances, as the results clearly show!

Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make this day happen. It's without doubt the best race on the calendar, and another reason to be proud to be a Crystal Palace Triathlete.

So the scores are in, and despite the fact that we could only field a small team given marshalling commitments, we continue to climb up the rankings!

The Men’s team came 1st at Round 4, and holding onto 3rd overall. Mike Dowds, Rob Parry and Greg Lewis

Ladies team came 2nd the day, and holding onto 3rd overall. Hannah Ewens, Lisa Buchanan and Cathy Cooke

Mixed team was 1st as well, and still 2nd overall. Just 2 points behind Clapham Chasers!! All of the above

Mob Match came 5th (unsurprising as there were so many members from rival clubs competing), so now 3rd overall. All of the above plus Jon Horsman, Jack Hambleton, Tom Vincent, Elkie Mace, Scott Barnes, Tom Suddaby, Chris Porter, Daniel Doyle, Helen Garrett, Richard Weston, Andreas Bajohra, Oxana Chippendale, Nick Girdler.

Onto Round 5, and Greenwich Tritons’ turn to host. Clash of the Tritons is a classic event, and now at a new venue. Charlton London Lido, run around the park, open to all members… get involved!!

Don't miss out on entering Round 9, the London Fields Aquathlon in October. Entries will fill up soon.

Cathy & Lisa after the Crystal Palace Triathlon

Crystal Palace Triathlon - 10 MayA big thank you to all our members, parents and friends who gave up their weekend to support and marshal our 11th annual triathlon, our biggest and best yet!

1st place honours went to Danny Russell from Tri London who finished in 1:03:21 and set a new course record!

We also took quite a few podium places ourselves:
F20-29 - 1st Hannah Ewens
M30-39 - 2nd Rob Parry
F30-39 - 3rd Lisa Buchanan
M40-49 - 2nd Jon Horsman
F40-49 -1st Cathy Cooke
M50-59 - 1st Greg Lewis

CPT member results.

We've had some great feedback from competitors:

“Thanks to all involved in the event - it just gets better and better each year - and this year it was hard to find anything that could have been improved on - a brilliant day and a fantastic profile to CPT for yet again setting the standard.”

“A BIG thank you to the whole of the Crystal Palace Tri Team. Our Family has participated in hundreds of sporting events during the last 30 years and I can honestly say that this is one of the best run events that we have attended. Well done and thanks again.”

“Thank you to all at CP Tri club. Your race is always one of the highlights of my race season! Super friendly, and really well organised.”

Rob coming into T2

Plans will soon be underway for the 2016 race. Please let the Committee know if you are interested in being on the organising committee and don't forget all members are required to marshal at our race.

Club league update

Report from our League Coordinator, Rob Parry

Now that the 2015 season is well and truly underway, we have enough results for an update on the Club League. This is a separate competition to the London League, and is essentially rankings within the Club, taking in the Club Champs, London League, and other multisport races where at least five CPT members toe the start line, and split between seniors, vets and supervets between the men and the ladies. Near the end of the year, the top three in each category will be immortalised on the Club website, and will be awarded awesome trophies at the Club awards night, with the champ from each category taking home the League plate for the year.

So far the top honours go to the following members, who have scored at the minimum of three races:

Male vets
1st: Joshua Groenendijk
2nd: Emanuele Vignoli

Male supervets
1st: Gareth Robson

Females senior
1st: Hannah Ewens

Female supervets
1st: Jilly Dolphin

Please keep the race matrix up to date. Ideally you enter your race on this as soon as you enter, but at the latest you need to do it the day before the event. The reason for this is to help other people know which races will qualify as league races, and help to encourage members to enter the same races and keep each other company, which is really the whole point of this. If you don't do it, then I will be within my rights not to include your score. Them's the rules - don't say I didn't warn you!!

Happy racing, and good luck to everyone involved in our event tomorrow. To those racing, give it 100% for the London League and Club League scores, and do the red black and white proud!!

London League update - Race 3

Report from our League Coordinator, Rob Parry

Round 3 of the London League was Ful-On Tri Club’s turn to host, the Ful-On Duathlon, and a successful outing for a nine-strong CPT team has seen us continue our climb up the rankings.

Jack and Jon at the 2015 Ful-On Duathlon

Men’s Team: Up one to 3rd. Graeme Blair, Jon Horsman and Mark Brown (new member Jack Hambleton was actually the fastest CPTer, but didn’t have CPT down as his club so wasn’t included in the results unfortunately!).

Ladies Team: Holding onto 3rd spot. Lisa Buchanan, Jane Ford and Jilly Dolphin.

Mixed Team: Holding 2nd. All of the above/

Mob Match: Up one to 3rd. All of the above, plus Emanuele Vignoli and Gareth Robson.

In addition, the following members are currently in podium positions in the age group competition:

3rd F55-59: Louise Alan-Smith
2nd M40-44: Josh Groendijk

Lisa at the 2015 Ful-On Duathlon

Next round of the League is of course our very own race this weekend, so good luck to everyone racing, and to everyone involved in making this happen.

Don't miss out on entering Round 9, the London Fields Aquathlon in October. Entries have recently opened, but will fill up soon.

Club Championship Sprint results - Tonbridge - 4 MaySome close fought battles on the roads and fields at Tonbridge today!

Honours for the Club Championships go to Greg, Rob (-7 secs), Jon and Hannah, Lisa and Cathy, who placed in this year's Club Champs.

Greg was 1st MSV, Jon 3rd MV, Hannah 1st F (despite swimming two extra lengths and using a borrowed bike as hers was stolen on Friday night), Lisa 2nd F, Cathy 3rd F and 1st FV, Kati 2nd FV and Helen 2nd FSV!

The course was changed again this year, resulting in no PBs but some very similar times as recent years so the run distance can't have changed much! The run this year consisted of one lap around the field followed by a lap of the athletics track, then back round the field with a finishing lap on the track, apparently to make the course more spectator friendly (who cares about the athletes?!?!).

Friday activityAs swimming was cancelled at Trinity due to a gala, Jon organised a chain gang ride leaving from Elmers End in three groups. Audrey led the Improvers, Dean the Peloton and Jon the Breakaway. We all went out to Polhill, taking turns on the front (and the back!), then back to EE with lights on! Everyone enjoyed the session and feedback was that we should do something similar more often!

A few brave members opted for a chilly dip in an empty Brockwell Lido on the first day it's open to the public.
