Membership renewal due - last call

This is a reminder that tomorrow is the last day to renew your Club membership for 2014. You must renew online. Please let Lisa knowif you aren't renewing.

We would also like to encourage members to pay the Annual training fee, as this offers extremely good value, even if you are only planning to attend one session a week. The annual training fee needs to be paid separately from the membership subscription. Details of how to pay can be found on the Annual training fee page.

Kevin at the IcemanOn Saturday, a couple of hardy CPT members tackle the Iceman Duathlon. Kevin says " I didn't look this happy at the end, it was a tough race!".

On Sunday, Dave Crockwell ran the Brixton Runthrough 10km yesterday... Dave said "looks like I was the only M55 running, so a nice early season age group victory. Wasn’t a particularly well organised event. The start/finish was on the grass, which was like a bog, really muddy. On the plus side, there was a free T-Shirt!"

Super Saturday - 25 January

The sixth of ten planned adult Super Saturday sessions is set for this weekend

Endurance based Turbo / run session

- Meet 09:25 at the lock up beside CPSIC
- Bring bike, bike, run kit and turbo trainer, drinks etc
- Finish at 11:45 with stretching

Please note there will be just seven club turbo trainers available for use on a first come first served basis, please bring your own if you have one.

Contact Jon before Saturday morning if you would like to borrow a turbo.

The session fee will be £10 and included in the Annual training fee.

Plan ahead
The next five adult Super Saturdays: 15 and 23 February, 1 and 22 March. There is also an opportunity to cycle at the Hillingdon Cycle Circuit on 23 March.
These are being planned as a linked series of coached sessions aiming to provide increased consistency of coaching approach, progressive workouts and continuity of feedback where possible. The more regular attendees are likely to benefit most - but better one than none!

Race results

A quartet from the CPT Off-Road Division headed to the coast last weekend for the Thanet Duathlon, and all came back with trophies! First Vet, First Team and 3rd Overall. Go CPT!!

Rob sayst: “Well run event by the very friendly and welcoming Thanet Road Runners. Flat and fast road run followed by an horrific bike leg, finishing with an interesting offroad run. I will be back next year, but on a cyclocross bike for sure as they definitely had the edge over the MTBs on that course.”

CPT at the Thanet Duathlon

A good showing of CPT at the Box Hill Fell Race on Saturday 18 January, although Rob P managed to get lost and ran further than required! Congratulations to Rob B on his age group 2nd place. Spot the CPT vests lined up at the start!

'Pre My Valentine' Drinks - Sat 8 February - save the date!

Lovers of tri and CPT, come a long for a drink or two of alcohol rather than pool water! That's right, with 'Dry January' out the way (whatever that is?), time for a Club social!

Save the date and Selwyn will confirm details soon. Likely to be in the Crystal Palace Triangle, starting with cocktails in The Exhibition Rooms.

Saturday short rides return

The winter training schedule is packed this year - we have planned monthly dates for short Saturday road rides with the aim of encouraging less experienced riders out on the road with the support of stronger cyclists to help with routes, the headwinds and any issues that might come up!  This ride has worked very well over the last 18 months with the voluntary help of Club members  - we adopt the pace of the slowest rider and only split if there is sufficient support to facilitate this safely.  We hope you can join us and do let us know if you can help.

All riders are also strongly encouraged to make use of the two training sessions at Hillingdon Cycle circuit - this is a fabulous traffic-free facility and provides the ideal environment for developing cycle skills, speed and endurance! The Super Saturday sessions also include turbo work to keep those cycle legs active.

Here are the dates to fill your 2014 calendar:

11 January - Road ride, Elmers End 09:15-11:30
25 January - Super Saturday at CPSIC
8 February - Road ride, Elmers End 09:15-11:30
23 February - Training session at Hillingdon Cycle Circuit - 13:00-16:00
1 March - Super Saturday at CPSIC
8 March - Road ride, Elmers End 09:15-11:30
23 March - Training session at Hillingdon Cycle Circuit - 09:00-13:00
30 March - Duathlon Race at Hillingdon Cycle Circuit
13 April - Road ride, Elmers End 09:15-11:30

Full details will appear on the training schedule.

Running results

As usual, the first results for the new year are from the New Year's Day Knacker Cracker and today's Tadworth 10. There were a few changes to the course, but not to the long hill, at least the rain held off and there were a few PBs to get the year started.

Adam in 2013Also a very big welcome to Adam Efrat. Adam was one of the original 11 juniors who turned up for our first CPT Junior session on Saturday 5 April 2008. Adam has been training with the Club ever since, becoming one of the fastest Club sAdam in 2008wimmers. Good luck to Adam as a senior member of CPT (and because I'm his aunty, I can embarrass him with the old and new photos!).

Super Saturday No. 5 - Saturday 4 January The fifth of nine planned Super Saturday sessions rolls out this weekend.

Here are the details:

The session will be coached by Jon & TBC

Meet for 09:30 start at SE London Scout Centre - just off College Road, take the turning right by the north side of the tollgate and follow the road to the end, the scout centre is through the big gates on the left after the golf club.

This will be a conditioning and mixed pace run session. We have booked the large indoor facility at the Scout Centre for our exclusive use - so come and start the New Year as you mean to go on!!

There is plenty of parking and all you need is your run kit (suitable for all conditions, all terrain!) and indoor kit for conditioning work (an exercise mat if you have one). There are kitchen facilities if you want to bring coffee/tea, milk and any leftover Christmas cake.

The session fee this year will be £10 or included in the annual training fee.
