Apologies - No swimming at The Bridge - 29 December

Apologies to anyone who didn't get the email notification that The Bridge was closing early tonight. We were given very late notice that the Leisure Centre was closing at 8pm and tried to spread the word to save wasted journeys.

Herne Hill Harriers Christmas Cracker relay - 18 December

CPT 1 - Elle, Harry & Isaac

Just before Christmas two Crystal Palace Triathlete teams took part in the Herne Hill Harriers Christmas Cracker Relay run, 3 x 2 miles at Tooting Bec Common.  The teams were made up of the Brown and Horsman families.  'CPT 1' was Elle, Harry and Isaac and 'CPT 2' was Brigit, Mark and Sheila.  Needless to say the 11 year old team beat the veterans by around two minutes overall, even after Mark's gallant effort on the last leg!  Next time we will just go straight for the A and B team!

Christmas & awards party

CPT Christmas party

A big thank you to Suse, our retiring social secretary, for another successful party at the Black Sheep in Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Awards were presented to the Club Championship and League winners. The Coach's Award went to Lauren for her outstanding Ironman performances and for being the first CPT member to qualify for Kona. Cathy was presented with the Ridings' Trophy as a retiring member of the Committee who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes for a number of years as coaching coordinator.

Jim was awarded this year's Wooden Spoon Award for driving into the height barrier, with Matt's bike on his roof, at the Brighton Marina Triathlon.

As has become custom, Jon presented a number of fun prizes

  • Neil Barnes (who wasn't present) got the Arthur Daley Award (a trilby hat), for being the CPT e-group trader
  • Bruce was awarded a flashing helmet to warn marshals of his approach to transition, following an incident Jon witnessed at Medway.
  • Neil got the Frank Spencer Award (a flat cap) for diving in at the start of his first triathlon at Tonbridge
  • John P got the Nutrition Award, a miniature Fray Bentos pie
  • Grant was awarded the International Playboy Award (a pair of superstar sun glasses) for his busy social calender
  • Jim was awarded a pair of reindeer guitar sunglasses for his taste in music
  • I was presented with a Zipvit nutrition bar as Jon felt sorry for me going out on a ride with only a packet of dried apricots!

I'm a Celebrity look-a-likeSelwyn then announced the winner of a new prize, for this year only, the I'm a Celebrity Look-a-Like award, which went to Jon Horsman for his uncanny resemblance to Fatima Whitbread! View a copy of Jon's certificate (PDF)

Brian was on hand to record the evening with his camera, although I remember Kirsten taking a lot of snaps later on in the evening. View the photos.

Training sessions over the holiday period

Please check the training schedule as there are a lot of changes over the holiday period.

There is no swim at St Joseph's on Tuesday 20 December with the first swim of 2012 on Tuesday 10 January.

The last swim at Trinity will be on Friday 16 December, returning on Friday 6 January.

Swimming at The Bridge will continue, but with some uncoached sessions.

We have been advised that Crystal Palace pool will be closed on Monday 19 December due to staff training. The next swim at CP will be Monday 9 January.

There will be no Club training sessions on Saturday 24 and 31 December, but you can join the Dulwich Paragon ride or why not do one of the local parkruns.

Velodrome - Saturday 17 December

Just to remind everybody there will be a coached training session this Saturday at the Velodrome from 13:30-15:00. This replaces the usual Saturday morning session – we will have three coaches and plenty of action. There will be no escape even if it rains so do bring run kit as well as bike kit.

See you there – remember track mitts/gloves and helmet and no bottles on your bike.

We are hoping to keep these sessions going in the New Year so watch out for new dates.

Session fees will be £5 for adults and £3 for juniors or inclusive for those who have annual training membership.
