Boxing Day run

Cathie reports "Well, I've had a good Christmas... love this time of the year... minced pies, mulled wine and generally over-indulging myself! So I must have been inebriated when I signed up (only on Xmas day!) to do a 10k 'fun run' on Boxing Day. It was my Dad's idea, probably thought that I needed something to keep me on the straight and narrow (and out of the pub).
Anyway, it was Barrow Runner's Handicap (6 mile) - and my time was 47.23 which I was quite pleased with considering my lack of fitness, over-indulgence (as outlined above), and the undulating course!  If nothing else it was a nice little warm up for Tadworth.

Adrian ran the Bromley 5k parkrun on Christmas Day.

British Triathlon Annual Awards Dinner

Karen, Alastair Brownlee, AdamAdam was meant to write a report about his night at the British Triathlon Annual Awards Dinner but after nagging him several times he hasn't come up with the goods! I wanted to get the pictures up on the website before the end of the year so am publishing the pictures without his write up.

Adam, Tim Brabants and his Gold medalI had a lovely surprise as I thought John P, Bruce and I were the only ones attending the Awards Dinner from CPT. While having a drink before going into dinner someone came over to say hello. I was delighted to see my sister Helen, my Mum and Adam, who had come all the way to Leicester to celebrate with me. Adam looked very smart and grown up in his suit and tie, very different from his CPT running/cycling kit! We also spotted ex-member Carl Ferri, looking very dapper, collecting his age-group Duathlon award.

John and Helen JenkinsAdam was very excited to be sitting almost back to back with Alastair Brownlee at the dinner table. I got a very big cheer from my family when I went up to collect my Volunteer of the Year award. Adam was really pleased to be invited by John P to go up on stage with John, Bruce and myself to collect the British Triathlon Race of the Year Award.

After dinner we spoke to Alastair and Jonathan Brownlee, Helen Jenkins and Tim Brabants, having our photos taken with them and holding Tim's Olympic Gold medal. It was a really lovely evening, made even more special sharing it with my family and my triathlete nephew (if that doesn't embarass him into writing something, I don't know what will!!).

Collecting the Race of the Year trophy on behalf of Crystal Palace

parkrun results

Dave and Adrian ran the Bromley parkrun on Saturday. Times were slower than usual because of the snow. Results aren't available yet for the Crystal Palace parkrun, which did go ahead and was won by our very own Keith Brewster. Keith enjoyed a celebratory cup of mulled wine and a mince pie before heading over to the indoor track to take part in the Club circuits session! Well done Keith.

Keith has tried out the Lloyd Park parkrun, finishing in 3rd place on his first outing on 27 November and 13th on 11 December. He would have won on the 13th if he hadn't been five minutes late!

parkrun results

Dave ran his 35th parkrun at Bromley on Saturday and Ella ran the inaugural Brockwell Park parkrun.

Late result

David had a problem with his timing chip for the Hell Down South on 27 November, which showed him as not having started. David says "I can assure you that the memory of nipple deep water in -3 temperatures means that I certainly did take part and I finished. I'm in the process of trying to get the organiser to give me an official time with my Garmin measuring it as being 1:38:04".

Crystal Palace parkrun - Saturday 11 December

Please note the Crystal Palace parkrun has been cancelled this Saturday. The paths in the park are still too icy to make the event safe so the organising team have taken the decision to cancel. They are hoping the Christmas run will be able to take place on 18 December. There are no parkrun events at Crystal Palace over the Christmas/New Year period.

Check the parkrun website to see if either the Roundshaw Downs or Bromley parkrun events are taking place instead.
