There was no official timing, but Berit finished the Dorney Lake 10k in 51:17 on Sunday 28th October. She says 'I was hoping for under 50 as the course was flat as a pancake but with dreadful weather conditions I’ll blame it on that'. Berit's doing the race again on 25 November and is determined to shave a couple of minutes off her time! If anyone is interested in joining her you can enter online on Runner's World.
Please note the amendments to the Saturday morning cycle training on 24th November and 8th December.
Please only attend the session suited to your current ability defined as follows:
Advanced - can cycle at 18mph or keep on a wheel at 20mph
Intermediate - can cycle at 15mph
Beginners - any ability cycling at 14mph or slower
If unsure of which session you should join - please contact the coach, Jon Horsman, for advice on email@example.com. Attending the wrong group will be to everyone's disadvantage so please try to assess (honestly!) your current riding ability.
All Saturday morning sessions are £4 with the exception of track sessions which are £2 plus track entry fee. Please pay a Committee member on the day.
A very late result from the Brighton Marina Triathlon on 23rd September, where we got first female vet and third senior vet.
Ruki completed the Barns Green Half Marathon and Berit raced at the Dorney Lake Cancer Research 10k but I can't find any published results yet. New member, Peter Mack was the only CPT member at the Jekyll and Hyde Duathlon.
Paul Delicata did the Serpentine Last Friday of the Month 5k on 26th October.
Congratulations to Bernie and Lauren who are both finished the Dublin Marathon on 29th October in impressive times.
We had a very successful track session on Saturday, coached by Jon. There was a good turnout for a pretty tough session. After a warm-up and some drills there were some shuttle runs and mini-relays before the main set, which comprised 6 x 800m at current 5k pace. Check the Saturday morning schedule for what's coming up next.
There was also a pretty good turnout for the Sunday morning rides, despite the miserable weather conditions. Unfortunately the 9.30 ride was slowed slightly by a couple of punctures and some wet slippery roads but nothing serious and we all returned in one piece even if we were soaked through to the skin! When out cycling with the Club, please ensure you carry a pump, tyre levers, two spare tubes, money, phone, drinks and energy food.
There's also a late result from the Staten Island Half Marathon on 14th October.
This year's AGM will be held after the swim session at The Bridge on Thursday 15th November. If you would like to stand for the Committee please get someone to propose and second your nomination and forward to Phil before the 15th. You can use the attached nomination form and send to Phil by email or hand to him at a training session.
The Christmas party and Awards ceremony will be held on Saturday 1st December. Tickets are available at £10 per person, including buffet supper, from Committee members or you can pay by internet banking, reference Xmas party.
Well done to those who raced the Croydon 10k on Sunday 21st. Congratulations to Greg and Suse for PBs on the day.
New member, Paul Delicata raced at the Maidstone Half Marathon.
Ruki went to Bergerac to compete in the Semi-marathon de Cyrano.
Glyn and Richard completed the 133k Gatwick Sunday Sportive.
As promised here is the schedule for Saturday morning training sessions until the end of the year. These will be coached by Jon Horsman (details below).
All sessions are £4 each with the exception of track sessions which are £2 each plus track entry fee. Please pay a Committee member on the day.

Another successful cycling trip to Riccione in Italy was organised by Coach Taylor. Hopefully a full report and photographs will be published here soon. The weather was kind to us, the hotel facilities and food were absolutely amazing and we all made very good use of the Spa after our long hilly rides. We even managed to find a bar in town to watch England win the rugby, so everyone was happy. We are now looking forward to the Spring 2008 tour. Get saving!
A couple of members did the White Oak Fast & Furious Duathlon on 14th October.
Carl Ferri did the Ride of the Falling Leaves cyclosportive on Sunday 7 October. Despite puncturing in the first six miles and riding on his own for 50 odd
miles, he got a Gold time of 3.54.
Carl is also a regular at the first Tuesday of the month Crystal Palace Canter. This month he got a PB and won the race in 17.11. Ron came in second with 18.39.
Results are now available from the Dulwick 10k.
Our ladies team prize has been confirmed, with Syreeta, Suse, Cathy and Karen making up the winning team.
Photographs taken by ProSportPhotos and Bruce are also available for viewing.
Tooting Bec Lido is hosting the 5th World Winter Swimming Championships 8-11 February 2008.
They need participants and help to run this highly prestigious event. Over 1000 competitors are expected from all over the world. Find out more about entering this event or volunteering.
As we have lost our weekly Saturday morning swim at CP and we have been unable to find alternative pool space, we are putting on a weekly run/turbo session from 08.30-10.00 at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre. These will be held on alternate weeks (ie run one week, turbo the next week etc). The session will be coached by Jon Horsman and will cost £4 per person, payable to a Committee member on the day. We will post the schedule here soon.
The run sessions will comprise either hills, track, park run (intervals
etc), long run etc (these will be coordinated with Carl's Wednesday night sessions so as not to clash). Meet in the top car park at CP (same place
as Wednesday night run).
The turbo sessions will be held outside, but under the cover of the Jubilee stand, adjacent to the sports clinic. We will be sheltered from rain but please dress appropriately for the outside temperature (layers the best idea then you can take them off as you get warm). Meet for turbo session next to Sports Clinic but please not go inside as we don't want to disturb the patients using it. Bring bike, bike shoes, turbo trainer, heart rate monitor, drink etc.
Please support this new training initiative as it will be dropped if we lose money on it due to poor attendance.
First session this Saturday 13th October. This will be a run session comprising
'hills & drills.
Some late results from September:
We won the female team prize at the Dulwich 10k on Sunday 7th October. Results haven't been published on the Dulwich Runners website yet, but we think the four ladies were Syreeta Stracey, Suse Fairfax, Cathy Cooke and Karen Ayers. Ruki collected the trophy on our behalf. Suse and Karen both had PBs on the day as well. Frances also got a PB and proudly wore her medal while tucking into a full English breakfast after the race! Greg also got a PB. Unfortunately Bruce and David both had to pull out with calf injuries.
Reminder re seminars taking place at 10.30 on the following rescheduled Saturdays - 20th October, 17th November and 15th December. Find out more.
