Report from Charles Evans (Sophia's dad)

What fun we had today! This was the first time Sophia (30B) has raced with CPT having, until now, concentrated on her swimming at West Norwood.

We thought a Duathlon presented a good opportunity to ease her into competition so I bought her a new bike.

Sophia was teamed up with Samuel Little and William Day, a late replacement for the injured Ezra Banton, in the Tristart/Tristar 1 race. They were seasoned competitors, by comparison, and definitely up for the challenge.

The weather was kind, notwithstanding dire forecasts, and all three races went smoothly.

This was our first time at an event like this and I confess to having absolutely no idea of what was happening in the first two races. All I could see was a melee of cycling and running by a lot of enthusiastic and clearly competent athletes. If was great to see but unless one was at the start and concentrated it was easy to lose track of what was happening!

But when Sophia was racing I did, indeed, concentrate. After a well-organized briefing, the kids lined up for the start. I counted 15 teams.

William ran the first leg, handing over to Sophia, with Samuel running the anchor leg.

The whole thing was a blur of focused competitors performing brilliantly and enthusiastically with their equally enthusiastic parents shuttling between the start and the transition zone keeping abreast of the action. I loved it.

The competition was good and William, Sophia and Samuel came in, I reckoned, in 10th place of 15.

Sophia enjoyed the whole thing, immensely, and looks forward to doing it again.

Thanks, Anna, for the chance for Sophia to wear CPT's colours, which she did with pride!
