CPT juniors in action

Jon H would like to say a really big thank you to everyone involved in the CPT vs TT event at Herne Hill Velodrome on 28 September. It was a great success.  A real shame that CPT were just pipped to the trophy by Thames Turbo, but all the same there were some great races, camaraderie and a brilliant atmosphere.

With it being on home ground and having practiced some of these race formats at training we definitely had the advantage.  But with the lack of juniors in some age groups and a few tactics awry along the way it wasn’t to be. Results are attached.  There was only six points in it.  Next time!

Here’s some of the comments put up on the Thames Turbo forum… there were 44 of them there to take part.

“Thank you for a great afternoon.  The children all had a brilliant time and can’t wait to go back soon.  Very exciting to watch too!”

“Thank you to everyone who organised the day and made it possible…the format was really refreshing for the juniors.  Please pass our thanks onto CPT.”

My thanks of course go to Sheila who worked tirelessly leading up to it, assisting with the planning and communication to make sure it flowed as well as it did on the day.  Thanks to Audrey and Scott our coaches and all the parent helpers and bakers on the day.

In particular thank you to Karen Lord who organised and ran a fabulous cake stall which made £90! And also Brigit Brown, our very own track lady who always sorts everything out for us on site and who also took on the weighty responsibility of results.

Thank you to the club committee for agreeing that CPT could host this event with the extra cost and resource involved and always being so supportive and proud of our juniors.

Lastly THANK YOU to the juniors who came and raced for the club and to the parents for bringing them and supporting on the day, including Lottie who is injured but came along to cheer.  We hope you enjoyed the afternoon.

Representing CPT:
Tristart: Bessie

HHV Cake Stall update

Just a quick update from Sara to say the total we have raised since June is £829. Sara would like to say a huge thank you to all bakers, sellers and especially the eaters what an amazing achievement!

Junior cycling

Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control, CPT will not be running any junior road ride sessions until further notice.

It may be possible for selected juniors over 14 to join an adult group ride provided they have direct permission from Head Coach Jon Horsman, have the required group riding skills and have the ability to keep pace for the duration of the session.

Other juniors are free to unofficially accompany an adult group ride provided they are chaperoned at all times by either a parent or a guardian, however be aware that the main group is not obliged to reduce pace or wait!

To make up for the shortfall in endurance bike training we will be planning special sessions at traffic free circuits at either Gravesend Cyclopark, Hillingdon or Hog Hill.

Don't forget it's important to wear a properly fitting cycle helmet for all rides.

Please also remember to bring drinks to all training sessions, especially those juniors who are allowed to ride with the adults.

Easy sessions of an hour or longer can be deceptive and hydration is very important. You need to drink before you feel thirsty. Insufficient hydration can result in cramp, early fatigue or complete loss of energy (bonk). Meaning a wasted training session.

CPT juniors meet Team Sky

Harry, Elle, Adam and Isaac went to see the start of the Tour of Britain on Saturday 21 September.  They rode a scenic route to Epsom and got a great position before the start to see all the riders going past to sign on.

Harry and Elle also went into London to see the final stage of the Tour on the Sunday.  The crowds were huge!  They watched a few laps of the circuit by the Embankment and then headed close to the finish to watch on the big screen.  The atmosphere was brilliant, with Wiggo and Cav both doing the job on the day!

Afterwards they walked across Westminster Bridge where all the team buses were parked and again got to see the riders up close.
