Junior info & training session - Sunday 24 March

Sara has already alerted you to a very important session we have planned for you on Sunday 24 March - 1300 - 1530 at the SE London Scout Camp (very close to Dulwich College).

We need the biggest turnout possible for this workshop and training session - this is about your junior athlete and relevant to everybody who has a junior who comes, or might come, to a Club session, however frequently or infrequently!

For the Athletes - it will be a bumper training session combining some listening with loads of action making use of the trails through the woods and across the fields - bring trainers, layers and a drink!

For the Adults - This will be a session packed with vital information about:
- the Club;
- Training with CPT and how to make the most of what is available;
- Racing, competition & progression;
- Action needed

You will hear from our most experienced coaches, members of the Club Committee, the Regional coordinators for Junior training & competition as well as experienced parents of triathletes. There will also be opportunities to give your views and wishes, as well as ask questions.

CPT has one of the most active Junior sections of any triathlon club in the UK - this is made possible by the efforts of a significant number of parents undertaking the myriad of tasks that enable our coaching team to focus 100% on the junior athletes. We are at a stage where even if the parents have not got older the children have (!) and as they move to the adult section we need to refresh the pool of parent supporters. The long-term strength and health of the Junior Section will depend on this - we need you to attend this session.

Please be there and also let Sara know you are coming along.

Return to Herne Hill Velodrome - Tuesday 23 April

Yes, CPT will be running the road bike sessions at Herne Hill Velodrome again from Tuesday 23 April. A lot has been happening on site in the last month or so - the photo below was taken yesterday. There will be an inner junior track and a multi-use games area in the centre. This will provide more capacity and a safer environment for all riders.

The juniors will be coached on track from 18:15-19:30 (sign on from 18:00). More info to follow but just to whet your appetites.

Frank Harmer 10k - 3 March 2013 - Brockwell ParkReport by Isaac Brown

On Sunday I took part in the ‘Frank Harmer 10k’ run, a hilly three and a half lap course of Brockwell Park. I did the same race last year with a time of 38:14, finishing in 4th. The pressure was on to beat that time!

As soon as the race started I found myself in a group of four, but after 2k we split to find our own paces. At the half-way mark my time was 18:44. If I kept that up I would get 37:30! On the final lap the pain was searing through me, urging me to stop. Could I keep it up for the last two kilometres?

The finish to the race was a 100 metre climb which, after nearly 10k, felt as if it was vertical. I sprinted as hard as I could. So hard in fact that the medic looked like he was getting ready for CPR! I tried not to give in as my legs screamed at me! 5…4…3…2…1… Gasp. I had finished – seconds before my legs crumpled beneath me. I looked at my watch. 37:11!!!

The official results haven’t come through yet but I think I came 6th, out of a field which was far larger than last year’s. My dad got a PB with 39:05 and my mum got her best course time of 53 minutes.

Update: Isaac's official time was 37:12 and finished in 7th out of 257 finishers. Well done, Isaac. View the full results.
