Club Championships wrap-up ...
… Team Don had established a 30 point lead after the first event of this year’s Junior Club Championship and although Team Swift won the Greenwich Aquathlon and Trinity Triathlon, they still faced a 112 point deficit after the penultimate event in this year’s series.
The final event, held at Trinity School on Friday 16 November, was the Team Sprint Gala. The scores were neck and neck throughout the evening until Team Don pulled into a small lead two races before the end. With extra points available for the winners, it was all down to the last race the 50m freestyle relay. Despite level pegging leg after leg, Team Swift eventually pulled ahead, securing just enough points to take the win on the night.
However it was not enough to catch-up and overtake the eventual series winners. So congratulations to Team Don, this year's Team Club Champs!
Thank you to all the coaches and parents who helped out and supported the juniors at Trinity and the adult swimmers for giving up 30 minutes of their swim session for the event to go ahead. Also, huge thanks to Jon and Sheila for planning and organising such a great finale to this year’s Club Championships.
Across the series 55 juniors competed in at least one event. The top points scorers for their respective teams were Elle and Alex Y.

Training link with Herne Hill HarriersChristmas has come early to the Club with the gift of more running! From 1 December 2012 until 1 June 2013, CPT will be trialling a training link with Herne Hill Harriers. It’s a great opportunity for those who are hungry for more training, or curious about what can be learned from another club, and it doesn’t clash with our own running schedule. Details of the arrangement are;
- Members of CPT will be able to attend HHH run sessions by showing their CPT membership card and paying any fees appropriate.
- Members of HHH will be able to attend CPT training sessions by showing their HHH membership card and pay the session fee.
- Home members of each club will take priority if capacity at sessions is at any time exceeded.
- Members will continue to represent their own Club when racing.
- The training link applies to both Adult and Junior members.
The Committee will review how this is working in April 2013, and any issues that arise should be referred to the Run Coordinator to take forward. View the HHH training schedule and fees.
We hope you will take advantage of this and enjoy the winter season on foot.

Hillingdon Duathlon race report - Isaac Brown
Sunday 11 November
The Hillingdon duathlon, even though it is the last race of the season, was my first multi-discipline race of the year due to injury. At least I didn’t miss this race because you get a chocolate selection box if you get on the podium! Even before the race I knew I had a very good chance as many fast athletes weren’t racing and I have come 2nd twice here before. Would it be third time lucky…?
It was a classic bunch start; a 10 second sprint and then settling into the first run. Transition was relatively smooth, unlike my previous competitions and I sped up for what would hopefully be a smooth ride. Unfortunately, it wasn’t. A group of six riders from both Tri-Star 3 and Youth formed and some of the others seemed to be determined to draft. It got so bad that someone almost got a 2 minute penalty!
I arrived at the last run in second place just behind the leader. Luckily he was either extremely tired after the bike or he just wasn’t a runner because after a hundred metres I had caught and passed him. Just after the half-way mark, I could see I had it in the bag and I finished over one minute before the second placed runner. Finally, after 4 previous attempts at this event, I had got across the line first!
Club Champs swimming gala - 16 November
CPT Sprint Gala
Friday 16 November
The last event in the CPT Junior Club Championships is this Friday night at Trinity. The gala is a new event in our Club Champs and Jon is planning an exciting night of racing! So far we have 20 Team Swift and 14 Team Don members confirmed as swimming, so the gap gets closer. With points awarded on the night who will be the 2012 Club Champions?
Please arrive poolside ready for 19:20 so we can get organised and ensure everyone gets plenty of swims. Bring a drink, spare towel or top to use between swims, a smiley face and a big voice to cheer everyone on.
See you there!
Good luck to Team Don and Team Swift. Your team needs you!
