Natalie ran the Bromley parkrun in 23:25 on Saturday.
On 9 September four CPT juniors selected to represent London, competed in the Inter Regional Championship, an open water Triathlon in Durham. There were 11 regions competing covering all of Great Britain. In the Tristar 2 and Tristar 3 categories, two athletes raced per gender and region and in the Youths three athletes per gender and region. We travelled by coach as part of the London team, along with the other 10 juniors selected, parents, siblings and coaches. It was a very tiring weekend (not just for the triathletes!) but extremely enjoyable, with great team spirit and loads of enthusiasm.
Our CPT juniors performed superbly against the very strong field:
Tristar 2 Female
Elle Horsman – 11th out of 22
Tristar 3 Male
Alex Yee – 3rd out of 22
Jack Ryan – 16th out of 22
Greta Sharp – 18th out of 33
Here's what they said...
The race began with a scrap to gain position into the 1st corner of the swim. I swam well and came out 5th. I was quick on to the bike and after catching Jack ended up cycling 3 laps alone. I slowed down to get into a group that was catching me on the last lap to conserve energy for the run. After a difficult transition (I got a bit lost!), I set out on the run. I made up the time lost quickly, finishing third, a position I was really proud of!
I was delighted to be chosen to race for London. Finishing 11th place at Dorney Triathlon in June and knowing the field would be stronger at the IRC I had set my expectations to finish under 20th. I came out the swim in 12th place, had a strong bike gaining a few places to go out on the run 7th. The run was OK. The first lap was horrible but I managed to pick it up for the second lap finishing 11th overall, one minute behind the winner, feeling really pleased with my performance.
Another CPT member Harry was a massive supporter of the team and the official London Team photographer. Running around tirelessly fetching spare wheels, bike tools, sorting out room keys and race packs as well as making sure he had pictures of everyone in the team in and out of the race! Some of his pictures will be added soon..
London had some very strong performances achieving two podium places, with Reef Boericke (Optima) 1st T2 male and Alex Yee 3rd T3 male. The highest female place across the London team was attained by Elle Horsman.
The atmosphere was fantastic and everyone raced their hardest, with the London team finishing 10th out of eleven. It is the regions aim to improve on this result for 2013 and beyond, building strength and depth within London over the coming years to move up the leader board.
Congratulations go to the North East region (also with two podium places) who won for the second year running.
The Autumn training programme is about to start! There will be a series of junior road rides on the following Saturday mornings (weather permitting): 22 September, 6 October, 13 October, 27 October, 24 November and 8 December.
These sessions are targeted at our more experienced junior riders, typically 12 years and older, who have British Cycling's Level 2 Road skills (capability if not the certificate).
It is essential that juniors obtain permission from the Head Coach. It is also necessary to read and sign the parental constent form and ensure that the Junior Training Coordinator, Kati, has a copy. The form contains important advice about preparation for such rides - and you will need to be a BC or BTF member.
The mornings can be chilly as we get towards winter so layers of clothing are important as well as gloves and overshoes for the extremities - not to mention breakfast and goodies for the route!
The 2012 British Triathlon Inter Regional Championships (IRCs) take place on Sunday 9 September at Hetton Lyons Country Park in Tyne and Wear.
CPT have four representing London out of a squad of 14 (the most of any London club). The team consists of two T2 boys and girls, two T3 boys and girls and three Youth boys and girls.
The CPT athletes are Alex Yee, Elle Horsman, Jack Ryan and Greta Sharp, Jon is the team coach, (Sheila is Phil's manager) and Phil is the team manager.
Good luck to our junior members.
Congratulations go to Sam Singer-Ripley for stepping in to fill a last minute gap at the Southwater Relays and getting a very respectable time, beating dad, James Ripley into the bargain!
