Mini-Marathon heats on Sunday 30 JanuaryIsaacReport by Isaac

Last Sunday I ran in the mini-marathon heats in Battersea Park representing Lambeth: a 4k race to decide who is going to run the mini-marathon on 17th April. The weather was cold yet fair and the course was flat. Perfect running conditions!

There were about 35 boys in the under 13s (my group) representing Lambeth and Wandsworth.  The Herne Hill Harriers were out in force with black and red stripy vests everywhere. But I really stood out in my CPT gear!

Despite thinking I wouldn’t have much chance of a high placing – I’m just eleven so one of the youngest – I was still feeling quite nervous.

We were called out for an organised warm-up, then over to the start line.  The whistle went. And we were off!  After a frantic start everyone found their stride and I had my eye on the leader.  He was very fast but I was pretty much neck-and-neck with the guy in second place. Coming up to the finish line I tried to out sprint him but he just – by a photo-finish – got there ahead of me. Elle and Harry came over at the end which was really cool because I didn’t even know they were going to be there!

I got a bronze medal but actually came first out of Lambeth.  My time was 12:59. I am now officially faster than my dad!

Wandsworth schools Cross Country finalsLast week Elle and Harry Horsman ran in the Wandsworth schools Cross Country finals.  Even though their year group didn’t qualify, they were both invited to take part individually from the times they achieved in the heats.  On a cold and very rainy day they went along to King Georges Park with other qualifying year groups from their school.  Both boys and girls year 5 races were close running a distance of 2.5km.  Harry came first and Elle came second, a brilliant result!

Athlete of the monthJon and Phil will decide each month on one or more athletes who have shown outstanding determination, effort and good attendance.  The winner(s) will be awarded a trophy, the Columbia jersey to wear during the next month and of course be seen on the Athlete of the Month 'role of honour' here on the website.
The coaches will continue to award Athlete of the Day at relevant training sessions to celebrate great achievement, however prizes will no longer be given.
After the success of the Club Championships in 2010, we will be putting together a series for 2011 which will again include some of the London Triathlon league races (definitely the CPT race, so get entering!), full details to follow soon.
We will again have our Annual Awards later in the year.

Christmas Pudding Dash - 28 December 2010Joseph winning his first raceSome late news, Joseph won his first race - the Junior Christmas Pudding Dash (1 mile) at Ashburnham Place in East Sussex. The race was postponed from the week before due to the snow.

Joseph lead from the beginning and was smilling like a Cheshire cat as he could not believe he was winning.

Alex ran in the open 2.5 mile fun run and came 2nd (beating all the adults including his dad!).
