Race report by Harry Horsman
We arrived early as my mum was racing before us and we wanted to cheer her on.  The Tristars raced first and Luc, Joseph and Jay all sprinted to the finish line together!  Next the Tri star 1 and 2s all raced together, which meant I was racing with 11 and 12 year olds.  My race began at 11.30 and started off with a half mile run which my coach (daddy) said I paced well.  I had been practicing my transitions and this time it went really good, I was very controlled and quick.  My mum said I was a machine!  I set off on my bike for 3 miles which is 3 times around the circuit.  I found it hard going up the first hill and used my gears to help me.  The down  hill was definitely the fastest bit of the race even with a tight bend.   I came into transition with a great dismount and went off on the 1 mile run.  It was very hard and got a really bad stitch, but at the end my dad ran alongside me and helped me finish.  I got to the finish line in 22 minutes and 40 seconds.  I didn’t do as well as I thought I might, but still enjoyed it and was 10 seconds quicker than last time!

CPT junior awards

London Youth Games celebration

CPT juniors receiving the London Youth Games awardsOn Thursday 22nd some of our juniors (Freya, Alex, Adam and Oisin) received awards for representing Team Lewisham in the cycling at the London Youth Games. The cycling team came 3rd and their efforts assisted Team Lewisham to 2nd place overall and Best Inner London Borough Trophy at last year's London Youth Games.

They recieved their awards (Bronze Medal and Cup) from Sir Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham who congratulated them for their "tremendous effort and dedication to training".

In addition to the team medal and cup Ron also recieved a special award for being the team manager!

Saturday 17 January

LucLuc was awarded today's Athlete of the day at the circuit training and running session coached by Phil on Saturday.

The junior social event and awards presentation also took place today with an excellent turnout of junior members, parents and coaches for two games of ten-pin bowling and dinner at Nando's.

There were some great scores in the bowling, with a number of strikes. Luc scored a strike and narrowly missed out winning the first game in his lane, he was pipped by James who scored two strikes. All the scores were tallied up at the end and overall the boys beat the girls.

Then it was on to Nando's where we were joined by CPT Chairman, John P. Coach Jon said a few words describing the achievements of each member since the launch of the junior section, before John presented each of the 2008 members with a commemorative award.

Saskia and Alice took lots of action photos of the bowling and Ron took photos of the awards. Come back soon to see them all.

Please note the Junior bike session at Hillingdon planned for Sunday 18th January by the London Region has been cancelled. See below for future dates.

Out of action

Adam is on crutches at the moment! He spent three hours in A&E on Tuesday evening. He hurt his ankle playing football at school. Luckily, it isn't broken, but swollen and bruised. He's not too sure when he will be back at training but he's not missing bowling on Saturday!

Alice was awarded today's Athlete of the day.

London region cycle training

The session on Sunday 18 January has been cancelled.

The London Region is holding free Junior cycling sessions (you will need a road bike for these sessions) from 12-2pm.  Jon will be involved in the coaching with fellow London Region coach Alan Hanley and would like to invite the following CPT members to these sessions; Joe, Alice, Alex, Adam and Zeke.

There have been several changes to dates and there are also some new venues. Please check the schedule (Word 78Kb).

FreyaSaturday 10 January

Greg, Suse and Audrey coached today's session which was mainly circuits, with a 400m time trial. Times can be seen on the Time trials page. The TT had to be run as two 200m runs, with a turn in the middle, as the top end of the athletics track was covered in ice and was too dangerous to run on. The planned cycle training also had to be postponed because of slippery conditions, The session finished with a couple of games of 'domes and dishes' and 'stuck in the mud'.

Freya was awarded today's Athlete of the day.

Tuesday 6 January

AlexThere was a very good turnout for Tuesday's track session, on a very cold evening. Phil took the younger members through some drills and a few laps of the track, while Jon took the older members and adults for 4 x 400m, getting faster each lap. Zeke and Alex worked particularly hard and managed 2:57 and 3:00 for the last 400m.

Alex was awarded the first Athlete of the day in 2009.

Saturday 3 January

Only two juniors turned up for Phil's first session of 2009, Alex and Adam. The track was closed so we had a run around the park, taking in the dinosaurs on the way round. We finished the session with hot drinks in the cafe.
